The Power and Energy Ministry is to decide next week whether there is a necessity to prepare a schedule on power cuts, Power and Renewable Energy Ministry Secretary Suren Batagoda said today.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said there were unscheduled power cuts because of the shutting down of the unit 2 generator at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant due to a technical issue.

“The power outages can also be experienced owing to the prevailing dry weather conditions. However, the Ministry is keen on informing the general public beforehand without inconveniencing them. Hence, we will discuss with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to have a power cut schedule,” Dr. Batagoda said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
