The closing date to submit postal voting applications for the forthcoming presidential election has been extended till October 4, the Elections Commission (EC) said. The previous deadline was today.

Postal voting for the presidential election will be held on October 30 and 31.

EC said the decision had been taken owing to a spate of strike action launched by railway workers and other government sector employees. It said postal voting for officers attached to the Police Department and Elections Commission would be conducted on November 1.

Postal votes are called for State officers who will be engaged in election duty, officials and servants engaged in essential services, personnel of tri-services, police and the civil defence force engaged in security duties islandwide. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
