Dappula de Livera appointed Attorney General by CC

Solicitor General Dappula de Livera has been appointed as the new Attorney General by the Constitutional Council today.

The CC considering a recommendation by President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed the President’s Counsel De Livera to the post.

Mr De Livera who has a career span of 36 years in the Attorney General’s Department had served as a State Counsel, Senior State Counsel, Deputy Solicitor General, Additional Solicitor General, Senior Additional Solicitor General and Solicitor General.

He will assume duties as the 47th Attorney General of Sri Lanka successive to the outgoing AG Jayantha Jayasooriya who was appointed as the new Chief Justice last week.

A past pupil of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo Mr De Livera is renowned in the field as a seasoned petition lawyer and was also the leader of the State Counsel team who challenged the bond scam at the recent Presidential Commission.
