DNA samples taken from Angoda Lokka’s mother, sister to verify death

Underworld don Maddumage Lasantha Chandana Perera alias Angoda Lokka's mother and sister have been referred to the Government Analyst's Department and taken blood samples required for DNA to verify Angoda Lokka's death.

The Indian authorities asked the Sri Lanka Police to provide Angoda Lokka's next of kin's DNA to ascertain whether he was the person died in India last year.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the CID recently requested the Court to grant permission to obtain DNA samples of the underworld figure's mother and sister.

 Accordingly, the Kalutara Magistrate's Court granted approval to the CID to obtain blood samples for the relevant DNA samples.

He said the DNA samples will be sent to the Indian authorities soon in order to confirm the death.

Angoda Lokka who was living in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu as Pradeep Singh, died mysteriously.

He reportedly fled to India after an attack on a prison bus in Ethanamadala off Kalutara, in which rival underworld gangster ‘Samayan’ was killed.

Investigations  revealed that various individuals were involved in the crime and that 21 persons had been arrested on various occasions in the past.

DIG Rohana said, two other suspects, Nalin Chathuranga alias Ladiya and Asantha Kumara Herath alias Latty who were in wanted list in connection with this incident are currently living abroad and both have already been issued red notices through the Interpol.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
