The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has decided to recommence its services from May 20 subject to certain limitations with a limited staff, Commissioner General of the Department, Sumith C. K. Alahakoon said.
Issuing a media release, Mr Alahakoon said the services of the Department were suspended due to the curfew which was imposed to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 virus in the country.
Accordingly, the clients who expected to obtain the services should contact the department numbers (Werahera office and District offices) from 9.00 a.m to 4.00 p.m on weekdays and make an appointment.
All services including registration of motor vehicles, issuance of driving licenses, and certificates on vehicle inspection would be provided.
“No service will be provided outside the mentioned services for any purpose,” the Commissioner-General said.
However, the one-day services carried out by the department would not be executed until notified later.
The Commissioner-General expected that the clients would strictly adhere to government advice regarding hygiene and act patiently and sensibly with no agitation as the relief time period has been granted in relation to the periods that curfew had been effected.
The appointments would be allocated based on the National Identity Card number sequence as defined by the Government and after making an appointment that would not be considered as a 'Curfew Pass' for transportation during the curfew period, the Commissioner-General added.
