DMT revises motor vehicle fees from tomorrow

The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) has revised the motor traffic fees related to all services, including the first registration of a motor vehicle, with effect from tomorrow.

 

 

A Gazette notification (2306/02) in this regard was issued on Monday (14), by the Transport and Highways Minister Bandula Gunawardena.

Accordingly, the charges for the registration of a person as a temporary owner of a motor vehicle on a normal basis will be Rs. 1,000. The priority basis will be Rs. 2,000, and the one-day basis will be Rs. 3,000.

Charges for the cancellation of registration on a normal basis will be Rs. 1,000. Cancellation on a priority basis will cost Rs. 2,000, while cancellation on a one-day basis will cost Rs. 3,000.

“If an application for the registration of a person as the new owner of a motor vehicle is not submitted within fourteen days of the change of possession of such a motor vehicle upon a voluntary transfer made by the registered owner of such a motor vehicle, an additional delay charge for each foregone day shall be payable along with the fee payable.”

“The charges for the cancellation of a registration and the removal of suspension of a motor vehicle on a normal basis will be Rs. 1,000; on a priority basis, they will be Rs. 1,500; and on a one-day basis, they will be Rs. 2,000.

“Entering in the register of motor vehicles, the name of any person as the absolute owner on a normal basis will be Rs. 2,000, on a priority basis, Rs. 3,000, and on a one-day basis, Rs. 4,000.”

“The deletion of the absolute owner's name from the entry in the motor vehicle register will normally cost Rs. 1,000. The priority basis will be Rs. 1,500, and the one-day basis will be Rs. 2,500,” the Notice said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
