DMC cautions CEA to be alert on smog levels

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has cautioned the Central Environment Authority (CEA) to be watchful on the SMOG levels in Sri Lanka’s atmosphere and to inform them if it reaches alarming levels.

DMC Spokesman Pradeep Kodiplly told the Daily Mirror that CEA has been asked to be watchful on the SMOG situation and to inform them if there are any concerns in the Sri Lankan atmosphere. “There is no reason for anyone to be alarmed now but the DMC and CEA are watchful on the situation,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indian media reported that the air quality levels (AQI) in many places in India was in a ‘severe plus’ situation as of last afternoon. AQI level in Delhi was measured at 472 (severe). At many places in NCR, the AQI crossed the 500-mark, putting the regions in 'severe plus' category. Indian media added that the situation in the situation in that country could reach emergency levels. (Yohan Perera)
