Three luxury used cars imported illegally into the country were seized by the Customs RTC Personal Baggage Examination Unit, Customs Deputy Director (Legal) and media spokesman Sudatta Silva said.
He said the vehicles were disassembled and packed in container boxes and tagged under the names of several local individuals. The detection was made following a tip off received by the customs intelligence unit, the spokesman said.
During the customs investigation, three used cars were found in the small containers shipped from the UK, he said.
Accordingly, a Mercedes Benz Maybach, Audi A1 and a Fiat were detected by the customs officers.
Moreover, he said several bottles of liquor and lubricant oil cans were also found among the vehicles. Customs are conducting further investigations. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
