Court of Appeal extends order issued on Ranjan’s Parliamentary seat

The Court of Appeal today extended the order issued to the Secretary General of Parliament not to take any action over the Parliament seat of imprisoned MP Ranjan Ramanayake until March 16.

A bench comprising Justices Arjuna Obeysekara and Mayadunne Corea gave the above order regarding the writ petition filed by MP Ramanayake.

President Counsel Faiz Mustafa who appeared for MP Ramanayake, has not been able to appear in Courts yesterday and President Counsel M.A. Sumanthiran made the request to considering the petition on another date.

M.A. Sumanthiran PC also requested to extend the restraining order issued on MP Ramanayake's Parliamentary seat.

He further stated the Speaker had made a statement on February 10 about the order issued by the court on Ranjan Ramanayake's parliamentary seat and that the Speaker misunderstood the order. (Yoshitha Perera)
