Countrywide bus strike likely on Monday: IPPBA

5 February 2021 02:51 pm

Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association (IPPBA) today said that they would launch a country-wide bus strike on Monday (8) midnight.

IPPBA President Sarath Vijitha Kumara told the Daily Mirror the strike will be launched if they do not receive an invitation for a  discussion with the Finance Ministry this evening.

He said the concessions promised by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to the private bus industry were not given so far.

"The leasing companies do not grant relief. They said they have not received the funds from the Central Bank as instructed by the President. But all Government banks have received instructions to grant the relief," he said.

Therefore, continuing this service has reached  a very difficult point, Vijitha Kumara said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
