Committee to no longer entertain complaints

Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said the time period granted to lodge complaints against former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and former Governors Azath Salley and M.L.A.M. Hizbullah ended at 4.00 p.m. yesterday and that the three-member committee appointed to the task had received 21 complaints as at 3.00 p.m. yesterday.

“Eleven complaints have been received against MP Rishad Bathiudeen and five against former Governor Azath Salley. The committee has received only two complaints against former Governor Hizbullah,” he said.

However, a joint complaint has been lodged against Bathiudeen and Salley, and two joint complaints against all three.

Surakimu Sri Lanka National Movement President Ven. Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thera, Sinhale National Organisation Director Dan Priyasad and the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) have lodged complaints with the committee yesterday.

PHU leader and MP Udaya Gammanpila lodged a complaint against MP Bathiudeen while PHU Public Relations Secretary Upul Konara lodged a complaint against Azath Salley.

The three-member committee comprising an SSP and two SPs was appointed on June 4 to receive complaints against former Minister Bathiudeen and former Governors Azath Salley and Hizbullah.
