Civil Aviation Authority takes measures to curb coronavirus

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) which is the regulatory body for air navigation said a host of measures had been taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus through the airport.

CAA Director General H.M.C. Nimalsiri, in a news release, said his office had taken these measures in coordination with the health authorities.

The news release said the airport authorities continued to remain alert with regard to inbound and transit passengers coming from destinations in China where the coronavirus was first detected and that measures were in place to refer passengers with coronavirus symptoms to the relevant authorities for examination and the restriction of visitors to the airport.

The CAA said a meeting was held recently with relevant officials to discuss these matters where it was stressed the need to wear protective face masks by passengers, avoid touching the nose and mouth and washing of hands with soap.
