A consignment of 600,000 Chinese vaccines has been delivered to the Beijing international airport to be airlifted to Sri Lanka on Wednesday as a gift from the people of China, an official said.

The stock of vaccines will be flown to Sri Lanka by Sri Lankan Airlines on Wednesday morning. A spokesman for the Chinese embassy said the vaccines were developed by China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm).

The Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines have hit a combined 100 million doses of supply around the world last Friday. Over 80 million doses have already been administered.

There are plans to use a part of the consignment to vaccinate Chinese nationals living in Sri Lanka. (KELUM BANDARA)
