Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith yesterday praised the Government for its efforts to find solutions to the issues faced by the families battered from the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
He expressed these views after a meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and other concerned bodies at Temple Trees to discuss the measures of resolving issues of the affected people and the progress of renovation of churches damaged following the attacks.
The Cardinal went on expressing his sincere thanks to the all parties including Ministers and State Ministers in finding solutions to the grievances of the affected people.
He also said they hoped that the security of the country was ensured to the extent that incidents of this nature would not take place in this country in future.
Meanwhile, the Premier ordered the State Engineering Corporation to expedite the work of the project of constructing 24 houses for those affected in Katuwapitiya.
Apart from this, orders were given to the National Housing Development Authority to allocate 33 houses from a proposed housing scheme for some affected 33 families living in temporary residences in Colombo.
The Prime Minister also directed the officials to make sure that renovation work that had put on hold at the Katuwapitiya Church Sunday School building and Kochchikade Church are resumed with adequate funds from the Treasury. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
