The Finance Bill presented by the government, moving for amendments to remove the Carbon Tax from December 1, was passed today in Parliament.

Accordingly, the Carbon Tax which was imposed under the Finance Act No.35 of 2018 will be removed from December 1 this year. The tax was payable by vehicle owners based on fuel type and age of the vehicle at the time of annual registration renewal.

The Bill will also provide for tax policies which are proposed in budget 2019 such as the Luxury Tax on motor vehicles and levy on foreign commercial transactions. (Ajith Siriwardane and Yohan Perera)
