Car driven recklessly on expressway: Two arrested

Two suspects including the first and the second owner of the car that was driven recklessly on the Southern Expressway have been arrested by the Gelanigama Tourist Police Division, Traffic and Road Safety Director SSP Indika Hapugoda said.

He said the police were informed of the details of the vehicle’s genuine owner and later he had sold it to another person without a legal vehicle ownership transfer.

"Legal action will be taken against the genuine owner of the vehicle for not transferring the ownership of the vehicle legally. He had sold the car producing a separate agreement through a finance company. Therefore no ownership transfer had taken place," he said.

Statements in connection to the incident were recorded from both suspects, SSP Hapugoda said.

The police have sent messages to the other four passengers who were on board the sedan through the driver who had driven the car at that time, he said.

SSP Hapugoda said their unruly behaviour had caused disturbance and distraction to the fellow motorists who were driving along on the expressway. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
