All Island Canteen Owners' Association (AICOA) Chief Asela Sampath has been allegedly abducted, by a group who had claimed that they were CID, at his residence in Pelawatta, his family said.
The people who came to the house were not in police uniforms, Mr. Sampath's wife said.
The vehicle used to allegedly abduct the activist, a van, had borne the registration plate number NE 0833, she said.
However, police media unit said they were unaware of the incident.
Meanwhile, Samagi Jana Balawegaya leader Sajith Premadasa said SJB would provide free legal support on behalf of Asela Sampath.
"We shall ensure that his rights are protected and secured," he said.
