Cannot express satisfaction with the prevailing situation in the country and people should behave adhering to COVID-19 regulations, Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said.

Addressing the media he requested people to minimise all their visits to places during this long weekend except for their most essential purposes.

"There is no need to celebrate New Year related festivals during this weekend and people should limit their visits," he said.

The current COVID variant spreading in the country is not the variant we had earlier. The virus is getting its mutation twice each month, he said.

However, the public should adhere to the basic health guidelines to prevent the virus from spreading, he added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
