COVID situation not yet gone out of hand: Health Ministry

The COVID-19 situation in the country has not yet gone out of hand, despite an average of 800 cases being reported every day, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said today.

Addressing the media, he said the reason for the surge in COVID-19 cases could be seen as easing of lockdown regulations.

“It should be noted that people have also taken health guidelines for granted. Therefore, it is the responsibility of people to abide by the health guidelines", he pointed out.

“According to the analysis in hand, whenever there is a spike in COVID-19 cases, the main source could be a wedding or a funeral or organizing a function ,” he underlined.

Thus, he said it is utmost importance that people follow Health guidelines whenever they participate in such events.

Meanwhile, commenting on the vaccination programme, he said there have been no incidents where adverse (side) effects observed on individuals after being vaccinated.
