CMC worker caught for collecting money to vaccinate public

A 40-year old employee attached to the Colombo Municipal Council Medical Officer of Health's office was arrested for collecting money to give Covid vaccine.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the raid was carried out by the Maradana Police on a tip off by the Western Province Intelligence Division.

The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of the vaccination site in Maradana.

The police media spokesman said the suspect had collected Rs. 1,000 from each individual for giving vaccine.

The suspect had Rs. 20,000 in cash in his possession at the time of arrest, which the police suspect that money might have been collected from the general public promising to vaccinate them.

DIG Rohana said, if any person demands to pay for vaccination, they should lodge a complaint with the nearest police station.
