CID tracking down digital footprint of ISIS

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed court yesterday that it was probing several plans devised by ISIS based on information received from Interpol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on communication techniques of the terrorist outfit.

It further informed Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dassanayake that investigations into several plans masterminded by ISIS were ongoing and that information was being obtained from Interpol and FBI on social media platforms, WhatsApp, Viber and Instagram used by the ISIS.

The CID had informed these developments to court with regard to the magisterial inquiry conducted on a businessman who maintained close links with ISIS.

Matters related to the suspect were produced in court by the CID in connection with the magisterial inquiry on the blast at Kingsbury Hotel.

The suspect identified as Ahamadhu Mohammadhu Arshad of Kattankudy was ordered to be remanded till Tuesday after he was questioned for 30 days under PTI. (Nimanthi Ranasinghe)
