CID to question Pujith over lift incident

Colombo Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake today permitted the CID to record a statement from IGP Pujith Jayasundare who has been remanded in connection with the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, over a complaint lodged by the lift operator of the Police headquarters.

Mr. Jayasundare who was first sent on compulsory leave by the President over the terrorist attacks was later arrested and remanded for his alleged failure to prevent the terrorist attacks or minimize the impact of the attacks.

The Magistrate permitted to record a statement from the remanded IGP following a request made by the CID which is conducting investigations into the complaint made by the lift operator that he was intimidated and harassed by the IGP some months ago at the lift.

The CID informed court that they had recorded statements from the personal security officers of the IGP and that the CCTV footage of the incident was currently under the custody of the court. They made a request to the court to release those CDs as they were required for the investigations.

Considering the submissions by the CID, the Magistrate permitted them to obtain those CDs and ordered them to report the progress of the investigations to the court on September 4. (Manopriya Gunasekara)
