CID takes over 112 Kuwait deportees on arrival at BIA

A total number of 112 Sri Lankans deported from Kuwait were taken over by the law enforcement officials at the Kalunayake International airport this morning, the Airport Duty Manager said.

He said the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry has been informed about of these deportees.

They were flown in at around 2.40 am by Jazeera Airlines. 

An Immigration and Emigration Department official said the deported Sri Lankans had been arrested by the Kuwaiti police for fleeing from the houses where they were employed, due to the sudden  COVID-19 outbreak.

The deportees were taken over by the CID and started recording statements, the Duty Manager said.

Later, they will be transferred to quarantine centres by the Army, the Duty Manager further added. (T.K.G. Kapila)
