CID request CSR Executive Director to provide info on Easter Sunday attack confidential report

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) requested the Executive Director of the Centre for Society & Religion (CSR) in Colombo 10 to provide information of the confidential report into the Easter Sunday attack that was handed over to a group of Catholic Priests on April 26 by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that a news article had been highlighted in social media, print and electronic media about confidential report in respect of the perpetrators of Easter Sunday incident.

According to the article, a report had been handed over to the Catholic priests by a group of MPs of the SJB on April 26, 2021.

It was reported that the report was to be handed over at the CSR. However, the meeting held at another Church in Colombo after Police had informed that such a meeting could not be allowed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

SJB MP Manusha Nanayakkara handed the report to the Catholic priests while MPs Lakshman Kiriella, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Eran Wickramaratne, Nalin Bandara and Harsha de Silva were also reportedly present at the event.

The Police Spokesman said the CID and the Terrorism Investigation Division are currently conducting investigation into the Easter Sunday attack.  

"If they are valuable evidence in the report or salient points in respect of the perpetrators, those information are required to conduct further investigation,” he said.

Accordingly, the Director of CID had made the request to the executive director of the CSR to provide information of the confidential report to the CID for further investigation, he said.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
