The Police Headquarters instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to launch investigation on those publishing certain posts on social media threatening parliamentarians.
Police said it has been observed that various posts are being published on social media platforms threatening parliamentarians.
Earlier, Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed to conduct an investigation into the allegations that certain individuals through social media are attempting to influence or exert pressure on parlimentarians and obstruct their right to vote freely to elect the next President.
Accordingly, as per the instructions of the Ministry of Public Security, the Police Headquarters instructed the Computer Crime Investigation Division under the Deputy Inspector General of the CID to enforce the law against those who create, publish and circulate such pots on social media.
