The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today issued notice on former State Minister and SJB MP Ashok Abeysinghe to appear before CID tomorrow to record a statement over the speech he made on Easter Sunday attacks, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said six Parlimentarians have lodged complaints with the CID on Sunday to initiate an investigation into the statement made by Abeysinghe.

The spokesman said Mr. Abeysinghe had made the speech about the perpetrators of Easter Sunday attack recently.

In addition he had mentioned about the funding sources  that helped to carry out those attacks.

Addressing a public gathering, Abeysinghe said it was President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and former Minister Basil Rajapaksa had orchestrated the terror attacks. He had also said the funding for their activities, according to Abeysinghe, was provided by Nissanka Senadhipathi.

"The MPs who have complained to the CID said the speech made by MP Abeysinghe is totally baseless and made a request to conduct a full-scale investigation into it," he said.

Accordingly, Mr. Abeysinghe has been told to appear before the CID on Monday.

The notice was issued to the MP since he didn't report to the CID.

DIG Rohana said that Nissanka Senadhipathi had also lodged a complaint with the CID on Monday against Ashok Abeysinghe over his speech and urged them to open an investigation.
