CCD officer wanted over heroin case arrested for illegal entry in Tamil Nadu

The Police Constable attached to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), who was wanted over the seizure of 23 kg of heroin in Sapugaskanda recently, had been arrested in Tamil Nadu, India.

The Indian Coastal Security wing police arrested the Sri Lankan after he illegally entered Tamil Nadu and patrolled the Danuskodi beach on Saturday night.

According to the police, the suspect was seen walking towards Mukundarayar Chatram in Dhanushkodi.

The Meegahawatta Police last week arrested a suspect with 23kg of heroin which had a street value of over Rs.230 million during a raid carried out by t at Samadhi Mawatha in Sapugaskanda.   

It was revealed that the arrested suspect was a brother of a police constable attached to the Colombo Crimes Division.

The arrested suspect, a 37-year-old resident of Sapugaskanda had been running a carpentry workshop in the area.  

Sri Lanka Police launched an investigation to arrest his brother who was suspected of being involved in heroin trafficking.

The 30-year-old has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Bandaranaike, a resident of Mannar district.

The Indian media reported that the suspect was brought to the Dhanushkodi police station for interrogation.

During the interrogation, it was found that a Sri Lankan friend of his told him that he was going to meet his acquaintance in Rameswaram and he would get a job in Tamil Nadu.

Currently, the police are conducting a thorough probe at the Dhanushkodi Coastal Security wing Police Station.
