The Constitutional Council has rejected President’s Maithripala Sirisena’s nominee Judge Deepali Wijesundara as the Appeal Court President, Parliamentary sources said today.

This was the second time the Constitutional Council rejected the President's nominee as this was the same person previously nominated by the President.

According to sources, the President had nominated Ms. Wijesundara as the President of the Court of Appeal in place of Judge Padman Surasena who was appointed as a Supreme Court Judge recently.

The Constitutional Council met today and decided to fill the vacancies of all independent commissions. It had approved six names for the Police Commission. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
