Leader of the House and Minister Lakshman Kiriella said today steps would be taken to call for a report from the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) on the allegation that milk powder contains substances harmful to human consumption.

He told parliament that future action would be taken on the matter based on the CAA report.

He said this in response to a statement made by UPFA MP Wimal Weerawansa that a Parliament Select Committee (PSC) should be appointed to find out facts related to the allegation made by Deputy Minister Buddhika Pathirana saying that milk powder contains animal oil, in line with the investigations carried out by the Consumer Affairs Authority.

“CAA is conducting an investigation into the matter. I propose that we will call for a report from the CAA and decide on future action based on the report,” Minister Kiriella said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
