A group of men posing to be buyers had stolen a car after forcing the owner out of the car during a trial run yesterday, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said a seller had posted an advertisement on a popular website to sell his father-in-law's car (vessel).

Accordingly, a person had contacted his father-in-law, a resident of Kudamaduwa and they came to the seller with three others to examine the vehicle.

"The owner of the car had then given the key to the buyer as they were keen to have a test run. Then the owner and three others were on board the vehicle and heading towards Polhengoda.

However, the buyer continued to drive the car towards Piliyandala and suddenly they forced the owner out of the car and took the vehicle away," he said.

DIG Rohana said further investigations are underway by the Mattegoda Police.

He said it has been observed that there is an organized gang involved in this type of crimes.

"When you intend to sell your vehicle, don't give the keys to the buyers, unless it is not protected. Otherwise, you could be a victim of this type of crime," the spokesman said.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya )
