Police said the mother of the deceased had informed the death to the police.
Mathew Daniel Lawrence had arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday.
His Sri Lankan born spouse Menaka Tharanga lives in the UK, police said.
The body of the deceased is kept at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital morgue for the post mortem examination.
