Board appointed to probe recent violence in the country

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has appointed a Board of Inquiry to ascertain lapses, if any, by the armed forces and State Intelligence Services during the recent incidents of violence in Mirihana on March 31 and island-wide violence since May 9, official’s sources said.

Accordingly, former Navy Commander, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, former Air Force Commander Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke and former Army Commander Daya Ratnayake are the members of the Board of Inquiry.

The first meeting of the Board of Inquiry will take place today and expected to hand over their report to the President soon, they said.

The Board of Inquiry is tasked to inquiry into the incident near the President’s private residence in Mirihana on March 31 and series of incidents in Kollupitiya and Galle Face on May 9 and after that serious of violence in the country killing several people and damaging public properties etc.(Sunil Jayasiri)
