JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake yesterday asked the government whether there was any plan to sign a Status of Forces agreement between Sri Lanka and the United States.

Quoting an article that appeared in the Daily Mirror newspaper on "US navy conducts temporary cargo transfer initiative in SL", he said several US naval aircraft are scheduled to land and depart from the commercial airports.

He asked the government about its stance on the security to the country by allowing US naval aircraft to arrive at commercial airports.

Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said it was not a strange thing but even previous governments had signed agreements with the US.

He said however he would refer the matter to the government's attention.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
