The general public is urged to be vigilant when handling cash during the upcoming festive season because several incidents of circulation of counterfeit notes have been reported in various parts of the country, the police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that several individuals had been arrested during the past few days with Rs.5,000 counterfeit notes.
He said that organised groups are circulating counterfeit notes on various means and that the public should be more cautious when accepting cash especially Rs.5,000 notes.
DIG Ajith Rohana also requested business owners to exercise caution when dealing with currency notes during the festive season. (DSB)
