Authorities still unable to lift isolation in lockdown areas

Despite some areas in Colombo are placed under isolation for a longer period of time, the health authorities are still unable to revoke the isolation status, as there is a tendency of more COVID-19 sub cluster proliferation, police said.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that COVID-19 cases are still emerging from those areas.

He requested the public that are living  in the isolated areas, especially in the Colombo city to strictly adhere to quarantine rules and regulations and continue with the health guidelines, at least for a period of one week.

"Then the health authorities would take a decision by analyzing the proliferation of COVID-19 positive patients in the isolated areas," he said.

Grandpass, Wolfendhal street, Maligawatta, Dematagoda, 
Kotahena, Awissawella police areas in the Colombo District, Ruwanwella in Kegalle district, Kattankudy in the Batticaloa district and several Grama Niladhari Divisions across the country are currently placed under isolation.

In addition, the police media spokesman said, 23 persons have been arrested for not wearing face masks and failure to maintain social distancing within the last 24 hours.

A total number of 2,098 persons have been arrested for having violated quarantine regulations upto date.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
