Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine was not effective on the new COVID-19 variant virus, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said.
He said this was revealed in tests conducted on the vaccine.
He said at the Opposition Leader’s Mobile Service in Lunugamwehera recently that Sri Lanka has obtained this Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine and added the situation is turning out to be serious.
He said the government has not taken any step to purchase vaccines except for 600,000 vials donated by India.
"The government has forgotten that there are 22 million people living in this country and that they have no plans to bring more vaccines in addition to the 600,000 given free of charge," he said.
