Assistant Manager of VTA killed while in police custody

An Assistant Manager of Narahenpita Vocational Training Authority (VTA) who was in the custody of the Police Narcotics Bureau(PNB) has died due to gunshot wounds after being admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo following an incident with the police.

Police said the suspect was arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau with nearly 15 grams of heroin in the Narahenpita area yesterday.

It was reported that the suspect was shot by police following an escape attempt in Maradana.

Police said an incident occurred between police officers and the suspect during further interrogation

The suspect died while being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and a police officer of the Narcotics Bureau was also hospitalised due to injuries. 

The deceased was a 41-year-old, a resident of Hikkaduwa.

The body has been deposited at the Colombo National Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
