Asia’s tallest Buddha statue declared open in Mathugama

A replica of the Aukana Buddha, considered the tallest standing Buddha statue in Asia, was declared open in Mathugama yesterday by President Maithripala Sirisena.

The statue was constructed by Mathugama UNP chief organiser and Western Province Parliamentarian Jagath Pinnagodawithana at a cost of Rs 90 million.

The statue is 135 feet in height.
