According to the prevailing COVID-19 epidemic in the country, a total of 500 to 600 positive cases are being reported eveyday and 500 are reported cured daily, the Health Ministry said.
This was revealed at the COVID-19 Control Performance Action Review Committee meeting held at the Health Ministry with the participation of Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday.
Attention was drawn to expeditious setting up of treatment centres for these reported infections.
Accordingly, the Action Review Committee had decided to take over the hospitals which could provide treatment and facilities to the majority of the patients by the Health Ministry and to convert those hospitals into COVID-19 treatment centres as soon as possible, the Health Ministry said.
It was also discussed to provide necessary financial allocations from the Ministry and to obtain additional funding from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, the Ministry added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
