Army Commander and Head of the National Operation Center for the Prevention of COVID-19, General Shavendra Silva said there was no truth to reports that the government was considering allowing vaccinated travelers a quarantine free entry into the country from mid April.

In a widely circulated message on Whatsapp, it said the government was considering such a move to return the economy back to normal and to kickstart the tourism sector. The message further said that initially, as a precaution, vaccinated travellers will be required to produce a negative PCR result obtained within 48 hours prior to landing.

However Silva said he was not aware of any such decision and to await any formal announcement. (Jamila Husain)
