Former cricket captain Arjuna Ranatunga today apologized to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa after he used a national event to verbally attack the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and the past administrators.

Ranatunga said that he was in two minds on attending the event and wanted to even turn back after he realized that some corrupt officials will be in attendance.

The former captain and members of the 1996 World Cup winning Sri Lanka team were felicitated at Temple Trees today by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Members of the current and former cricket boards, including former cricket board president Thilanga Sumathipala attended the event.

Speaking at the event, Ranatunga launched a scathing attack on the cricket administrators of both the past and present.

He also called on Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa, who was not present at the event, to appoint a commission and investigate the corruption in Sri Lanka cricket.

Minister Namal Rajapaksa had informed Ranatunga that he will not be able to attend the event as he was in quarantine after returning from Dubai. (Easwaran Rutnam)
