The election manifesto of the National Peoples’ Power (NPP) will be launched on October 26 at the Water’s Edge Hotel, JVP MP Vijitha Herath said today.

He said they have drafted the manifesto covering key sectors such as education, health, national security, agriculture and environment and expected to release them accordingly to key areas on separate dates.

“We will release our manifesto on education at the Water’s Edge Hotel on October 14, the manifesto on health will be released on October 15 at the Foundation Institute and the manifesto on the environment at Udawalawa on 17. The final manifesto will be released on October 26 at the Water’s Edge Hotel,” he said.

Mr. Herath said the NPP had launched its election campaign where 50 main rallies have been organised with the participation of NPP presidential candidate and 250 rallies to be attended by other party members, with more than 3000 meetings being organised at ground level.

He further said there was nothing new in the SLFP joining hands with SLPP as it was a reunion of the divided SLFP.

He said the two main camps of Sajith and Gotabhaya and their policies were not new to the country and added that people were yearning for a change at the presidential election.

“These two camps are responsible for the economic and political debacle the country had plunged into. We were only second to Japan in Asia when we gained independence. Countries such as Malaysia, India and Singapore were behind us. The country has been put into a debt trap by the two parties which governed the country after independence," he said.

He said as both parties have failed to develop the country, it was time for an alternative force to take over. (Ajith Siriwardana)
