JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today the no-confidence motion brought against the government by them could have easily been won if there were no political games and requested the UPFA-led by opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) to support the NCM.
Starting the debate on the NCM against the government, he said Opposition leader Rajapaksa and TNA leader R. Sampanthan should take steps to make sure that all their MPs attend Parliament today and support the NCM.
"Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed as the opposition leader on the basis that he gives the leadership to the UPFA. If he gives leadership to the UPFA, all MPs including those who joined him after October 26 should attend Parliament and vote in favour of the NCM," he said.
The MP said TNA leader R. Sampanthan also cannot remain silent on the NCM if they represented the public security.
MP Dissanayake said they did not discuss with any party to garner their support to the NCM and added that it was the responsibility of the opposition to support the NCM.
"We do not want to discuss this inside a room. This should be discussed in the Chamber. It is the responsibility of the opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa and TNA head R. Sampanthan to offer their MPs to support the NCM," he said.
He said the NCM had been brought against a minority government where they had only 106 MPs while there were 118 MPs in the opposition.
Mr. Dissanayake said the government should have brought in a motion and dissolve parliament before this NCM, as they did not have a majority in the House or in the country. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
