Another suspect in Kalutara prison bus attack arrested

Another suspect involved in the shooting at the prison bus in Kalutara recently was arrested yesterday by the Divisional Crimes Investigation officers, Police Media Spokesman DIG Priyantha Jayakody said.

He said the arrest was made according to the collected information after conducting investigations using CCTV footage.

According to the CCTV footage the suspect had come in a motorcycle showing the way to the shooters in the van.

The SSP said the suspect was arrested near the Balapitiya Magistrate Court with the motorcycle on Thursday afternoon and handed him to the Kalutara North police station for further investigations.

The 29-year-old suspect was identified as Roshan Kumara De Silva from Palanwatta, Pannipitiya and Kalupe, Hikkaduwa areas, he said.

He is to be produce to the Kalutara Magistrates Court today.

Meanwhile, last week another suspect alias ‘Ala Bole’had been arrested with two mobile phones in connection with the shooting incident in Kalutara.

Seven suspects, including a prominent underworld figure Aruna Udayashantha alias Samayan, and two Prisons officers were killed, when a prison bus was shot at in Kalutara on February 27. (Chaturanga Pradeep)
