Another consignment of 500,000 Oxford-AstraZeneca COVISHIELD vaccines have been brought to the country from India a short while ago, Indian Airlines Katunayake Airport Manager Saranath Peiris said.

He said the consignment of vaccines was brought from Chennai by an Indian Airlines flight at 1.30 pm.

Moreover, 14 passengers and other cargo were also on board the flight, he added.

The cargo was stored in the aircraft's freezer storage facility while being flown.

Immediately after the vaccines were unloaded, they were stored in a refrigeration facility at the Import Cargo Storage Complex at the airport.

Subsequently, the vaccines were taken to the central warehouse at the airport by freezer container trucks which belong to the State Pharmaceutical Corporation. (T.K.G. Kapila)
