The annual Medin Perahera of the Devram Vehera Temple in Pannipitiya will be conducted tomorrow (Saturday) under the patronage of the temple’s founder, Ven. Kolonnawe Siri Sumangala Thera.

The Medin Poya in March is hallowed by the Buddha's first visit to his parental home after his enlightenment.

This colourful traditional, cultural, and religious Perahera will commence at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 and be conducted along the streets of the area.

After the placement of the casket containing the sacred relics on the caparisoned tusker, the street parade will commence.
Along with the tusker, the statue of Ravana will be taken around in the Medin Maha Perahera.

The Perahera consists of several components, which are the Medin Perahera, Theruwan Pooja Perahera, Suddodhana Perahera, Mahamaya Perahera, and Maha Ravana Perahera.

Before the Medin Perahera, three additional Peraheras, such as the Sarana Mangala Blessing and Puja Perahera, the Pregnancy Mother Blessing and Puja Perahera, and the Infant Blessing Puja and Perahera, will be paraded through the streets of the area, covering a distance of one kilometre, starting on March 22.

Several ceremonial events relating to the Perahera will be held until April 1. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
