When implementing the four-lane elevated highway project on the New Kelani Bridge to Athurugiriya, the government has decided to provide alternative settlement facilities for 1,100 families who live on acquired lands.
The decision was made today at the Information Department during the weekend cabinet meeting.
The elevated highway project was launched by the Prime Minster yesterday at the Temple Trees with a small group of invited guests, using technology while adhering to health regulations.
It has been determined that there is a need to provide alternative settlement facilities for 1,100 families residing in acquired lands for the project, including families and sub-families residing in encroached lands, families residing in lands less than six perches in extent, and families residing in encroached lands in the proposed land to construct the Dematagoda Stadium.
As a result, the Highways Minister submitted a proposal to the Cabinet Ministers yesterday to provide housing facilities to the said 1,100 families from the Kolonnawa, Henamulla and Maligawatta housing projects implemented by the Urban Development Authority. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
