UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam today refuted the allegations made by MP Nalin Bandara Jayamaha regarding New Democratic Front (NDF) candidate Sajith Premadasa's election campaign and the funds received, said the campaign was conducted solely by the candidate's Vauxhall Steet headquarters.

Issuing a special statement Mr. Kariyawasam said the campaign was conducted by Vauxhall Steet headquarters which were overseen by Former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.

“Mr. Premadasa's campaign was conducted by Mr. Attanayake who was in charge of the headquarters. Meanwhile, 'Sirikotha' carried out every assignment given to it by the Vauxhall Steet headquarters. Sirikotha also conducted the campaign,” Mr. Kariyawasam said.

He also refuted the claims made by Mr. Jayamaha saying that all funds for the campaign were received by the Vauxhall Steet office.

“No one complained of any misuse of funds at regular reviews and meetings which we had during the campaign,” he added.

Mr. Jayamaha on Tuesday alleged that sabotaging Mr. Premadasa's campaign was one reason for his defeat. He also alleged that funds received from various sources for the campaign had gone missing. (Yohan Perera)
