ASP Liyanage contests from Colombo with UNP

Sri Lanka Labour Party Leader, A.S.P Liyanage is to contest the General Election for the United National Party (UNP) from the Colombo District.

Liyanage who was the former Ambassador to Qatar, has also been appointed as the UNP organiser for Borella.

He signed his nominations paper on Wednesday (18) at Sirikotha, the Party headquarters.

UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Ravi Karunanayaka, Daya Gamage, Sunethra Ranasinghe and ASP Liyanage were among the UNP candidates who would contest from the Colombo District.

Liyanage ran in the Sri Lankan presidential election of 2010, 2015 and 2019. In the 2010 election, he was a distant third in preferential voting in Colombo.

The UNP has decided to contest the next general election under the elephant symbol in all 22 districts.(DSB)
