AG’s Dept to file 10,000 indictments by Dec.31

The Attorney General's Department is planning to file 10,000 indictments on charges of corruption, fraud and other crimes by December 31 this year, parliament sources said.

The AG’s Department had conveyed this to the Parliament Sectoral Oversight Committee on Anti-Corruption and the Media.

The AG's Department has also informed the committee that they had filed 7,800 indictments within the first eight months of the year.

The information was made aware at the committee meeting at the parliament chaired by the President's Counsel Dr. Jayampathi Wickramaratne.

Member of Parliament Rauf Hakeem, Deputy Minister Karunaratne Paranavithana, MPs Ali Zaheer Moulana, M.A Sumanthiran along and several other representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Mass Media, Judicial Service Commission and Bar Association of Sri Lanka took part in the meeting.
